**Because of the capo being higher up the fret board, if you don’t strum the high e string it won’t sound so bright, thus matching the song even better :)

  1. Hey :) I love this so song so much and would love to learn it but I’d need to print it out to learn. Is there anyway I can do that? It’s just for my personal learning if that is a problem.
    Thank you so much!

  2. These chords are technically right, but they sound too high because of the capo. If you want the guitar to sound deep like it does in the original recording, don’t use a capo. Tune your guitar down one half step. Then take these chords and play the following instead:

    G when it says D
    C when it says G
    D when it says A
    Em when it says Bm
    A when it says E

Also, it’s pretty much just G the whole first two lines until switching to C on “Days are good…” There are some minor changes the guitarist does with individual strings, but the overall chord does not change from G. Same with the first two lines of the other verses.

    1. I’m always in standard tuning and I try to tab everything with the easiest to play chords- in standard tuning. But however, many times like in this case, the easiest chords are actually with the different tuning- but everyone knows, ALL my tabs are in standard.

Yeah, capo on 4 is brighter. Capo’s 1-3 had harder to play barre chords so I went with the 4th fret. I mostly find myself catering to the beginner guitarists out there. If they can play something easily they’ll keep going at it. I almost quit in the beginning when I was teaching myself because I didn’t know what a capo or transposing was and every song sounded wrong or had terribly hard barre chords in it. My guitar was in standard tuning and I had no idea how to change tuning so I was stuck and ready to bag it. Once I learned of transposing, I ran out and bought a capo and haven’t looked back since :)

So technically it’s still in the same key, just a ‘BRIGHT’er one, lol :)

  3. Hey – love your site. Thanks for all your hard work and introducing a 44 year old guy to some cool new bands.

On the Echosmith song, I believe they’re tuning down 1/2 step and playing in open G. They seem to be adding the Sus to the G, C and Em chords on the 1st and 2nd strings (3rd fret) too.

    Standard tuning down 1/2 step

    Verse 1

    Prechoruss

    1. Hi :) Glad you like the site!

Yeah, they could be tuned down. I have no idea. You can see some guitar playing in the video above but I’ve never searched for a live version (if I see a D chord being played on the 1st fret and when I play that same D, if it sounds bad I know they’re not in standard tuning.)

But that being said, my process is this: I listen to the song then start playing around with chords- moving the capo around, until I find the correct fret. I’m always in standard tuning. Every song can be played in standard tuning with the use of a capo and transposing and still be in the same key as the original song (meaning: a song in the key of D when transposed down 2, will become a C and so forth.) The further up the fret the capo goes, the sound will be higher/brighter of course, but it will still play right along in the same key as the original :)

So, these chords that I’ve done above won’t sound right if your guitar is tuned down. This is a standard tuning/capo 4 version. That’s the beauty of using a capo and transposing- no retuning is necessary- as long as you place the capo accordingly ;)

This one was harder to tab, if I remember, but I think it plays nicely right along to the video above :) What I always tell everyone- Play it how it sounds best to you :) You’re the one hearing it, lol. These are just my interpretations. If there’s a flat out wrong chord then yes- let me know :)

      Have fun!!
